New Retinol Restrictions Are Coming—NUORI Has You Covered

For decades, retinol has held a top spot in skincare routines worldwide. Its reputation as the gold standard of anti-aging ingredients is well-earned—helping to smooth wrinkles, refine texture, and promote a radiant glow. But at NUORI, we’ve always taken a more cautious approach.

While retinol’s benefits are well-documented, its potential risks have not been widely publicized. At NUORI, we’ve always known that retinol is an ingredient with safety concerns, and that’s why we have chosen not to include it in our formulations. Now, new EU legislation is validating our careful stance, setting strict limits on the use of retinol in over-the-counter cosmetics.

New EU Regulations on Retinol: What You Need to Know

Starting in November 2025, the European Union will enforce new restrictions on the concentration of retinol, retinyl acetate, and retinyl palmitate in cosmetic products. These rules will limit face and hand creams to a maximum of 0.3% retinol and body products to just 0.05%. Products containing retinol will also be required to carry warning labels alerting consumers to potential health hazards.

Why the sudden change?

Retinol and its derivatives retinyl acetate, and retinyl palmitate are all forms of vitamin A. The EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has raised red flags about the cumulative effects of vitamin A from food, supplements, and skincare. Too much vitamin A can lead to serious health issues, including liver damage, hypervitaminosis A, not to mention a myriad of skin reactions: irritation, redness, low-grade inflammation, hypersensitization, and reduced sun-tolerance.

The new EU regulation send a clear message: what we put on our skin is directly linked to our overall health. And that’s been a guiding principle for NUORI’s product development from day one.

The NUORI Difference: Effective, Safe, and Natural—Always

At NUORI, we’ve built our formulations around a simple idea: powerful skincare should never come at the cost of safety. That’s why we’ve consistently chosen not to use retinol, even when it was at the height of its popularity. Instead, we focus on sourcing innovative, next-generation natural ingredients that deliver real results—without the side effects.

With the upcoming regulations, many consumers are asking: What’s the alternative to my beloved retinol product?

We’re proud to say we already have an answer.

A New, Natural, and Safe Alternative to Retinol: Meet Sytenol® A

Sytenol A Graph

NUORI’s Infinity Bio-Fusion A+ Serum is powered by 1.0% Sytenol® A—the first true natural alternative to retinol. Sytenol® A is a highly purified bio-extract derived from the Bakuchiol plant. Unlike traditional retinoids, Sytenol® A offers similar anti-aging and skin-renewing benefits without irritation, redness, peeling, or photosensitization.

Backed by clinical studies, Sytenol® A has been shown to:

  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Improve skin elasticity and firmness
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation
  • Promote cell turnover for a smoother, more even complexion
  • Reduce the prevalence of adult acne

Even better, it’s well tolerated by sensitive skin types, safe to use during pregnancy and during daylight hours, thanks to its photostability—something retinol can’t offer.

Retinol & Bakuchiol: Frequently Asked Questions

Is retinol safe for aging skin?
Retinol is often recommended for aging skin due to its anti-aging effects. However, it can also cause irritation, dryness, and increased sensitivity—especially in mature or sensitive skin types. That’s why many are now turning to gentler, plant-based alternatives like bakuchiol.

What’s the best natural alternative to retinol?
Sytenol® A, a highly purified form of bakuchiol, is the first natural ingredient clinically shown to match retinol’s results in reducing fine lines, improving texture, and stimulating collagen—without irritation or photosensitivity.

Can bakuchiol really replace retinol?
Yes. Clinical studies have shown that Sytenol® A (bakuchiol) offers comparable anti-aging benefits to retinol while being significantly gentler on the skin, making it ideal for everyday use—even for mature skin.

Is bakuchiol safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?
Unlike retinol, which is not recommended during pregnancy, bakuchiol-based ingredients like Sytenol® A are considered safe. Always consult your doctor, but this natural alternative is generally better tolerated and safer.

The Danish Beauty Product of the Year?

INFINITY BIO-FUSION A+ SERUM Skincare NUORI

The EU’s new stance on retinol is more than a regulatory update—it’s a wake-up call. It reinforces what NUORI has always believed: that effective skincare and safety should and can go hand-in-hand.

Infinity Bio-Fusion A+ Serum, you don’t have to choose between results and peace of mind. You can have both. This is probably also why the product has been shortlisted in the 2025 Danish Beauty Awards for the Best Danish Beauty Product of the Year.
