What does NUORI mean?
NUORI is a Finnish word that means ‘young and fresh’. Although NUORI is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, our founder and CEO, Jasmi Bonnén, is originally from Finland.
Freshness defines our reason for being and sets the bar for all aspects of the NUORI concept. From formulas and production, to packaging and distribution, everything has been reimagined to optimize freshness of our products. At NUORI, we produce small batches every 10 to 12 weeks, so our products reach customers quickly after formulation, ensuring the potency and purity of the product.
The NUORI packaging can easily remind you of the two main reasons we create fresh skincare: The yellow symbolizes the efficacy and the white signifies the purity of our 100% natural formulas.

What is the cosmetic industry’s standard shelf life?
According to regulations put forth by the European Union, all cosmetic products must have an expiration date, unless the shelf life is over 2.5 years, in which case a Period After Opening symbol is mandatory. The PAO symbol looks like a small jar with a number inside, which signifies the number of months a product is safe for use after unsealed. This means that when you see the open jar symbol on your product, it was designed to be free of mold and bacteria for at least 30 months.
The 30-month/2.5-year duration is the time it takes for a typical cosmetic product to be blended, bottled, freighted, warehoused, transported, and eventually sold. Please keep in mind, there is no regulation to ensure a product is sold within this timeline, it is just a guideline.
When it comes to long shelf lives, there is first of all a need for high concentrations of preservatives and stabilizers that do nothing helpful for the skin. At worst, these ingredients are potential harmful- which is why so many people seek clean beauty formulations. Key active ingredients also break down over time no matter the packaging. A formula containing water molecules will begin to break down (oxidize) as soon as it is blended. A product that sits on the shelf for 3, 4, or even 10 years - which is not unheard of in the beauty industry –is left with only trace amounts of active ingredients by the time it is purchased and opened.
In defiance of the industry standard, NUORI products are freshly blended and marked with an actual expiration date, rather than the open jar symbol. You can easily find this date on the outer box, bottle and tube, indicating our commitment to potent and pure skincare. We call this our ‘Fight For Fresh’- and we believe if making fresh skincare was easy, everyone would do it.
How often do you produce NUORI products?
NUORI products are freshly blended in small batches every 10 to 12 weeks at our professional production facilities; after which they are packaged and promptly delivered to our retail partners across the world.
What is special about your packaging?
At NUORI we work together with experts in packaging to ensure the highest quality of premium protective packaging that minimizes exposure to air, light, and bacteria before and after use.
We source our packaging from locations in close proximity to our production facilities and we ensure that all our packaging – bottles, tubes, boxes etc – do not have added weight or size that will cause excess usage of resources during transportation. We are conscientious of single-use plastics, and transitioning towards more environmentally friendly packaging such as FSC-certified cardboard, as well as both recycled plastics and bioplastics wherever possible.
How should I store my NUORI products?
Our products are formulated to be kept at room temperature. As with all skincare, it is a good idea to keep them in a cool, dry place.
NUORI Tip- try putting the Vital Eye Cream or Supreme Moisture Mask into the fridge before use. The cooling effect and refreshing finish helps skin microcirculation and feels great after a hot day or long bath.
How long do NUORI products last?
The date stamped on the bottom of your product is the expiration date; however, we encourage you to start using the product right away to take advantage of the fresh and potent ingredients.
Are your products suitable for use during pregnancy?
The most important ingredients to avoid while pregnant are retinoids (vitamin A), salicylic acid, parabens, phthalates and synthetic fragrances. Numerous studies prove these ingredients to be unsafe, and we do not use any of these in our skincare range.
When it comes to essential oils, there are many different views that are directly tied to where in the world you live. For example, sage and clove oils are deemed both safe and unsafe, depending on the country you cite. We do not formulate with either, as we specifically create our skincare with ingredients that are proven 100% safe to use. Additionally, it is important to consider the concentration of a particular oil in a formula. Most pure essential oils can be very active when applied directly to all skin types, however in most skincare formulations, oils will have a much lower concentration (often down to a few percent – or even less) which makes them perfectly safe to use.
All ingredients, including essential oils, are clearly listed on all products, and it is best to check directly with your health care provider if you continue to be concerned.
Are your products organic?
We do select organic ingredients for our products; however, we made a conscious decision to omit focus instead on the most important aspect of NUORI: freshness. This means that we create 100% natural products at peak efficacy. We are also strong believers in transparency, which is why we make the clear choice to omit certificates on our products, many of which are tied to political or marketing initiatives.
Does NUORI test on animals? Are your products cruelty free?
We meticulously test all of NUORI products and ingredients, but never on animals. We never have, we never will.
A nice fact- EU law prohibits any cosmetic products and ingredients to be tested on animals.
Are your products vegan?
Yes, the full NUORI product range is plant-based, with the exception of beeswax which is only used in a few of our products: Vital Facial Cream, Lip Treats, Supreme Polishing Treatment, Enriched Hand Lotion, Vital Body Balm and Vital Hand Cream.
The beeswax we use comes from a supplier who is part of the Responsible Care initiative. This means that the supplier is committed to continuously improve their processes in order to avoid harm to people, animals, and the environment.
All NUORI products are cruelty-free.
Are your products gluten-free?
Most skin symptoms related to gluten result from consuming gluten, rather than topical application. We recommend that those who suffer from Celiac Disease should avoid swallowing any cosmetic products that contain gluten (for example, toothpaste and lip products). However, since the skin is the largest and most porous organ, whatever you apply will - to some degree - also be absorbed into the bloodstream, and it is of course best to fully avoid gluten if you suffer from Celiac Disease.
In the NUORI range, our Shield haircare line contains a wheat derivative, and therefore we would not recommend its use for those with Celiac Disease. In the remaining NUORI range, the only grain-based ingredient we use is oat kernel extract. Oat can in some instances contain traces of gluten, but the oat kernel extract we use is certified gluten-free.
SUPREME-C SERUM TREATMENT
How is the Supreme-C Serum Treatment different from other vitamin C serums?
Ascorbic acid is the type of vitamin C used in serum treatment. It had been shown to be an extremely effective antioxidant, but it is also known to be a very unstable ingredient in cosmetic formulations. Ascorbic acid starts breaking down immediately after being mixed into any formula containing water. Just four months after blending, the molecule will have only 70% of its original effect. Eight months after blending, the formula is down to only 20%. And the cosmetic industry’s standard shelf life is over three years. Consequentially, consumers cannot be certain of the active volume of ascorbic acid in any typical serum, cream or treatment.
NUORI’s Supreme-C Serum Treatment solves this problem by putting freshness at the center of the product with unique packaging design. The dry ascorbic acid powder is kept separate from the serum base until it is ready to be used- simply press, shake and activate prior to the first application.
The 20-day treatment kit includes two identical vials, meant to be used for approximately 10-15 days each. On average, the cells in the outer layer of the dermis automatically renew every 25-30 days. The best results are achieved when using the Supreme-C Serum Treatment continuously for 20-30 days, or the entirety of the two vials.
When, and how often, should I use the serum treatment?
To experience the best results, we recommend using the Supreme-C Serum Treatment quarterly. The potent ascorbic acid is effective enough to provide immediate results and help prevent future discoloration. The treatment is particularly effective at combatting hyper-pigmentation and uneven skin texture, especially after too much sun exposure at the beach or on the slopes.
While using the treatment, apply both in the morning and evening. During the day, vitamin C boosts collagen production and delivers antioxidant protection. It furthermore helps boots the photoprotective benefits of your SPF product. In the evening, vitamin C with hyaluronic acid and glycerin, nourish and repair the skin.
Why did you choose 7.5% concentration of vitamin C?
The 7.5% concentration of the highly active form of vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is the perfect balance of dramatic results without irritation. Keep in mind, the formula is blended right before use, so it is fully potent and active vitamin C, with no time-based oxidation.
MINERAL DEFENCE SUNSCREEN
How often should I apply the Mineral Defence Sunscreen?
As with all EU and FDA-approved sunscreens, we recommend reapplying every two hours or after water, perspiring or wiping.
Is your sunscreen ocean and reef-friendly?
Yes. We do not use any chemical sunscreen filter, nor titanium dioxide, in any NUORI sunscreen product. The only SPF filter we use in our Mineral Defence Sunscreen, is a new generation, transparent, non-nano zinc oxide filter.
In order leave corals untouched, sunscreen filter ingredients must be ‘non-nano’, meaning the ingredient particles must be above 100 nanometers in size so they cannot be consumed by the corals or animals’ gills. Some studies also show that when nano particles from titanium dioxide reach the water, they can react with UV rays and transform into hydrogen peroxide. This is toxic to phytoplankton, which is a vital nutrient to reef species, including corals. It is widely agreed that chemical filters, such as oxybenzone, octinoxate and benzophenone-2 can cause mutation in corals. These chemical filters also damage the immune and reproductive systems of most aquatic life, in general.
Is the sunscreen tinted? What is the finish?
There are no added pigments to this SPF. The hue that is visible when dispending the product is from the French marine pine bark extract, a powerful antioxidant that also helps reverse signs of previous photodamage. The ‘color’ will disappear immediately upon application. Fast absorbing oils and new-generation non-nano zinc oxide create a matte and sheer finish - with no white cast.
Is your sunscreen waterproof?
Our Mineral Defence Sunscreen is not waterproof. When developing this formula, we desired a product you can wear all year round - and not only on the beach - to ensure daily protection from the damaging UVA and UVB rays. Ingredients required to waterproof a natural formula can be unpleasant for daily wear, and the Mineral Defence Sunscreen is designed to be worn every day.
What's the percentage of zinc in this sunscreen?
Our Mineral Defense Sunscreen contains 23% non-Nano zinc oxide in the formula. As with all NUORI formulas, the Mineral Defence Sunscreen is 100% natural, and we only use uncoated zinc oxide. Some people have raised concern about the photo-stability of uncoated zinc oxide; however, it is proven that this version of zinc oxide does not show photo-catalyst activity (oxidation) and is thereby safe to use. Unfortunately, the opposite is the case with titanium dioxide in both coated and uncoated version. This finding is part of the reason we chose to avoid titanium dioxide in the formulation of our sunscreen products.
Should I use a moisturizer, oil or serum under the Mineral Defence Sunscreen?
If you have combination, dry or dehydrated skin, we recommend using either a cream or oil-based moisturizer under our sunscreen. If you have oilier skin, or if the weather is hot and humid, you can choose a less moisturizing product, such as a preferred toner or serum.
It is always a good idea to pair a moisturizing cream, oil, serum or toner that contains high amounts of antioxidants, as they will boost the photo-protective benefits of the SPF product. Always avoid products that contain retinols, AHA and AHB, as they are photosensitive and should not be used in the sun. We recommend waiting 4-5 minutes after applying the moisturizing product to ensure you receive the full SPF value stated on Mineral Defence Sunscreen.
Do your products contain sodium lauryl sulfate or other chemicals?
NUORI products are 100% natural and free from parabens, synthetic fragrance, mineral oil, petrolatum, PEGs, phthalates and silicones. This also means we do not use any sulfate derivatives or chemicals which can potentially harm the skin.
Are the essential oils in your products photosensitizing?
Citrus fruits are used in variety of NUORI products for the cleansing, toning and detoxifying properties found in these ingredients. The volume used in the formulas are in trace amounts less than 0,5% in each product and will not cause skin discoloration. Feel free to wear these products during the day, but as with all skincare daily advice- we strongly suggest the use of sunscreen to protect your skin.
What is special about the hyaluronic acid used in many NUORI products?
With age, skin’s own production of hyaluronic acid declines, leading to dehydration, the appearance of fine lines and loss of elasticity. The challenge so far with using hyaluronic acid in topical treatments is that it cannot penetrate skin, due to its large molecular weight and size.
To encourage hydration through deeper absorption, we use a newly formulated, 100% natural and lower molecular weight hyaluronic acid. This ingredient is bio-technologically produced through the fermentation of glucose, soy peptone and yeast extract.
What is the source of the vitamin E?
The two types of Vitamin E - Tocopherol as well as Tocopherol Acetate - found in our NUORI products are derived from 100% natural, non-GMO vegetable oil (not related to palm oil).
What is the source of the glycerin?
All glycerin used in NUORI’s products is of vegetable origin, specifically from the raw source of European rapeseed oil. The process of glycerin extraction requires the use of methanol as a solvent, but during the distillation process the resulting glycerin-water mixture is rectified at 160 C degrees in a high vacuum. This excludes any possibility of contamination of the final product, and have signed 'Certificates of VEG Origin', as well as detailed descriptions of the manufacturing process on file in our laboratory.
Fun fact: Rapeseed is a very common source of vegetable oil in Northern Europe, where olive oil production is much lower than in the South. Rapeseed plants give our fields the beautiful yellow NUORI color in the summer months.
What type of vitamin C do you use?
We use two types of vitamin C in our formulas:
/ Ascorbic acid (natural-identical)
/ Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) (natural-modified)
In cosmetics labeling, the following three categories of ingredients are commonly included under the definition ’natural’: 1) natural origin, 2) natural-modified, 3) natural-identical. Natural-identical ingredients have a chemical composition that is identical to their natural equivalents, but they have been manufactured in a laboratory. For example, most vitamins that are added to cosmetics fall by definition under this third category. If a product is labeled ‘all-natural’, all of the ingredients should fall within the three above-mentioned categories, as does all NUORI products.
