Spa Partner Spotlight on The Hjerting Badehotel, Denmark

On Denmark's west coast, Hjerting Badehotel has stood since the early 1900s, when people first traveled here for the sea, air and the restorative pull of the water. That idea still shapes the hotel today: a place built for slowing down by doing less rather than more.

This season, Hjerting Badehotel welcomed a new treatment room, where guests can book NUORI treatments with local therapist Sabina from Skininvest. The partnership sits on shared ground, simplicity, quality, and a belief that wellness doesn't need to be complicated to work.

We spoke with Mette, creative co-owner of Hjerting Badehotel, and Sabina, the therapist behind Skininvest, about atmosphere, seasonal skin, and what a considered morning looks like.

What does a stay at Hjerting Badehotel feel like from the moment guests arrive, what's the atmosphere you've built?

Mette: We want Hjerting Badehotel to feel like a place where you can slow down. There's something special about arriving here and being reminded, immediately, that you're by the sea. The atmosphere is relaxed and personal, informal but with a sense of history and tradition.

For us, it's about creating a place where guests don't feel they have to do anything in particular. They can enjoy a good meal, have a glass of wine, walk by the water, or simply sit and take in their surroundings. From the moment they arrive, we hope they feel they've left everyday life behind for a little while.

The hotel's setting, right on the sea, is such a strong part of its identity. How does that connection to nature and water shape the guest experience?

Mette: The sea is really part of the hotel, not just something you can see from it. The landscape and the weather are constantly changing, and that gives the experience a natural rhythm. Some days the sea is completely calm, other days it's windy and wild. You can walk along the water, breathe the fresh air, and come back to the hotel feeling completely different.

There's also something about being close to the sea that puts things into perspective. It gives you space. That's a big part of what we want the hotel to offer.

What helps guests properly disconnect and unwind during their stay?

Mette: We don't want our guests to feel they have to achieve anything while they're here. A stay can be very simple: a walk by the sea, a long breakfast, a good lunch or dinner, a treatment, a book, and some time with the people you came with.

We believe it's the combination of those small things that makes it possible to properly unwind. Sometimes disconnecting is less about adding more to your day and more about taking things away.

Beyond the rooms, what role does the spa and wellness offering play in that experience?

Mette: For us, wellness is less about a traditional spa experience and more about giving guests different ways to slow down and reconnect with themselves. In many ways, that's always been part of the idea of a seaside hotel, more than a hundred years ago, people came to places like Hjerting for the sea, the fresh air, and the restorative effect of nature. We find that idea surprisingly relevant today.

The treatment room adds a new dimension to that, without changing what the hotel is. A treatment can sit naturally alongside a walk by the sea, a swim, or a good dinner, all small ways of allowing yourself time.

Working with nuori

You've recently welcomed a new treatment room by Skininvest, where guests can book NUORI facials. What made that feel like the right fit for the hotel?

Mette: It felt right because Sabina from Skininvest, NUORI, and Hjerting Badehotel share the same view of what wellness can be. Sabina is local, and beyond being skilled at what she does, she has a genuine, intuitive way about her, she reads the person in front of her and adapts the treatment accordingly. That approach, holistic and uncomplicated, resonates with how we think about wellness here.

We're not trying to follow every wellness trend or introduce the latest technology. We often look backwards for inspiration instead. When Hjerting Badehotel was established in the early 1900s, wellness was simpler: people traveled to the seaside for the fresh air, the water, the landscape. More than a century later, there's something relevant about returning to that simplicity.

On a personal level, that's also what drew me to NUORI. I discovered the products before Sabina brought them into her treatments. The brand feels understated and honest, and the products themselves are gentle, nourishing, and highly effective. I connected especially with the freshness philosophy, the idea that skincare doesn't need to be designed to sit on a shelf for years. Sabina, NUORI, and Hjerting Badehotel make a natural trio: we share the same belief that well-being doesn't have to be complicated.

Sabina, tell us about the Skininvest treatment room, what was the thinking behind bringing it into the hotel?

Sabina: Skininvest is built from a passion for craftsmanship, expertise, and the natural, a place where hands and knowledge come together to create results. For me, skincare is about understanding the skin, the body, and the person in front of me: taking the time to really look, feel, and understand what the skin needs, then working with it rather than against it.

I wanted to create treatments where knowledge and technique meet a natural, holistic approach, somewhere you can slow down and feel cared for while still achieving visible results. I believe true beauty isn't about being flawless, but about enhancing what's already there.

I wanted to team up with a place that values the same things I do: craftsmanship, presence, atmosphere. Hjerting Badehotel creates a space that never compromises on quality. It felt like a natural match.

What drew you to a freshly-made, all-natural approach like NUORI, and how does that fit with the way you care for guests' skin?

Sabina: Everything I stand for is built on the belief that natural is beautiful, that we should work with what's already there rather than against it. That's why NUORI is such a good match. They never compromise on quality, and they get results using only high-performance, natural ingredients. For me, it's a perfect fit.

As the seasons shift, guests' skin needs change too. What small adjustments do you encourage as we move into fall and winter?

Sabina: I work by the philosophy of less is more, and NUORI fits that mindset perfectly. Their range is simple and carefully curated, and just as we experience seasonal change in nature, our skin needs different things throughout the year.

Sometimes it's as simple as adding a few drops of facial oil to your cream, using a hydrating mask more often, or layering Vital Eye Cream over Infinity Bio-Fusion Eye Serum for extra protection. Just as we add a layer of clothing when the weather turns colder, we can do the same for our skin, to support and protect the barrier.

a considered morning

At NUORI, we believe a daily ritual can be both effective and deeply restorative. What does a considered morning look like for you, is there a simple ritual, beyond product, you'd recommend to anyone looking to glow from the inside out?

Sabina: The first thing I do every morning is wash my face with cold water. I've done it for almost ten years, my day feels off if I miss it. It gets the circulation going and wakes up both body and face.

Then I apply my skincare while doing a little facial lymphatic drainage, to help reduce fluid build-up from the night. And always SPF, summer and winter.
